Rekindling
Distance, made by miles and silence,
Finally broken, with a modest hello
Suddenly rekindled,
This time, I won’t let go
Slow, at first,
But with growing ardency,
I should rest,
This conversation holding me in captivity
First, a smile,
Then a laugh,
The minutes roll by,
I watch the unchanging photograph
Late, so late tonight,
I welcome the company,
Out of this wide world,
I’m glad you’re talking to me.
Thoughts, wandering rapidly
Needing an escape,
They burst forth
Into poetry
Time, you end our fun,
As you always do,
I accept it though,
It’s almost two.
Sleep, claim me,
I’m ready for peace
Darkness take me,
Such sweet release
